Equity PM compensation: EU vs US

just wondering, how come that in the US PMs get paid way more than their counterparts in the EU with equal assets/ firms/experience? i mean most of the guys here (who are certified professional) seem to agree that, for example, a PM at Fidelity, US based, with ~800mil in assets and with lots of experience will make north of 500k dollars per year bonus included while looking a little bit on the internet (some surveys or conversations) it seems that a PM, EU based (that is London), with similar assets and experience will make 120-140k euros (or ~100-120k pounds) which in a way seems unfair. [yes i know there is FX to be accounted but overall if you work in the EU you will use pounds or euros, not dollars to buy goods and services)

Help Please! regarding NAV Calculations/ Cash+unit reconciliation

Hi guys,

was hoping to get some advice regarding a couple of things. My bro is off to an interview tomorrow and we were discussing the job spec. It states on the job spec that duties will include NAV (Net Asset Value) Calculations as well as Cash+Unit reconciliations.

Could somebody give me an example of what this would entail? I understand that the reconciliation and calculations are done so that internal/external info matches and therefore a better understanding of current position etc. so would cash+unit reconciliation be as simple as noting the buying and selling of shares, and entering this data to show the reconciliation so there isn't any discrepancies?

Hi everyone,

I was recently made an offer to intern at JPMorgan's private bank for my Junior summer internship. I was wondering if it was possible to pursue a career at a Hedge Fund after an internship/full time experience at JPM's PB.

Thanks for your time!

In BBPWM, working with UHNW Clients, is it my job to actually attract those big time, 10M+ clients? How Am i expected to know/find these people? OR is my job merely to manage their funds.

I have a hunch that there is a difference between Wealth Management and PWM. Could someone please explain it to me? Thanks.

Lazard advisory (M&A) gets a really bad rap on this site. Anybody know anything about the AM side? Hours? Culture? Looking at the types of people in LAM on LinkedIn - it appears like a whole different company, not many blue-chip guys. Any info/experience?

Anyone familiar with the promotion timeline for a 3 year analyst program at JPM/GS/BX for analysts starting in July? Do you get promoted to second year analyst after 6 months and a stub bonus? Or is it a July-July format with promotions coming every 12 months? Thanks.

Private Banking Investment Counselor vs. Private Banker

Hi guys,

I will be doing internship with a Private Bank in this summer and was given a choice to choose between Investment Solutions team or Relationship Managers team.

From my understanding, investment solutions (investment counselors) are the product specialists that have in-depth understanding for certain product. They have to structure and price the product and execute trades etc. Generally, they do not meet clients face-to-face but more of answering their queries and placing trades for them over the phone.

While for Relationship Managers, it is pretty much managing relationship, acquiring clients, advising on clients' needs and expectation etc.

Feel free to correct me if my above understanding is inaccurate.

Asset Management from Big 4 Valuation

WSO, I humble myself before you and seek your guidance.

I've spent some time looking at other posts on these boards regarding Big 4 Valuation and Transaction Services, but I haven't seen a whole lot of information comparing the two. I'm currently an associate in the valuation practice of one of the Big 4. I've been in my current role for a little over a year and prior to joining the valuation group, I was in audit for a year and a half. I'm a CPA, I have passed level 1 of the CFA, and plan on taking level 2 in June. My question is if I am trying to break into Asset Management or equity research, would transferring to Transaction Services provide any kind of benefit to me or am I better off staying in valuation and applying for any asset management/equity research job I can find?

Fellow monkeys.. (first post)

I've been working in the FP&A division of a well known Insurance company for the past two years. Additionally, I've passed CFA Level II and I'm scheduled to sit for the third this June. I have aspirations to work in my company's Asset Management group. Through persistent networking, I was able to land a meeting with the CIO of the asset management group. He's giving me 30 minutes of his morning schedule to answer questions I may have about how the group is structured and to just learn more about the group in general. I don't want to screw this up. It's not an official interview, but of course I want to impress and find out if there are any opportunities for me to make an internal transfer.

Strategy within Investment Management

Does anyone have first hand experience what a strategy analyst would within an investment management firm? I know it's more along the lines of reporting and benchmarking, with analysis of potential strategic initiatives, but I was hoping to get more information and see if anyone has personal or second hand insight into day-to-day/hours/comp?

Appreciate the help.

For all of you junior analyst monkeys out there, how much of your day is spent working with / learning from senior analysts or PMs at your firm versus being off on your own to 'figure it out' and develop?

I estimate at least 95% of my time is 'on my own' and am curious to hear about others' experiences. I work at a medium-sized mutual fund.

Hello Everyone,

I just got an interview invite from the FMA group at BlackRock for an Associate position (post MBA) in the London office. I did a search here but could not find much about the format of the interview conducted by BR at the Associate level within FMA. Can someone shed some light on the type of questions or past experiences? Is it mostly behavioural or technical? Any advise on what to brush up for the technical interview?

Thanks a lot!
